Rep. Iler tours Cape Fear Regional Jetport

OAK ISLAND, N.C. — Just before Labor Day, Representative Frank Iler had an opportunity to see the recent improvements to the Cape Fear Regional Jetport from the air in the tour helicopter based at the jetport.  From the air, he was able to observe the major runway extension, new taxiway parallel to the runway and new apron next to the taxiway that have been completed over the past three years.

The changes and upgrades have made the jetport safer and more marketable.

Thanks to the runway extension, jets can now land safely.  This upgrade led to the former Brunswick County Airport being renamed the Cape Fear Regional Jetport.

Additionally, before the new taxiway was added, planes had to taxi on the runway.  This upgrade makes it safer to land and park and allows a larger number of plains to use the jetport.  Since the change, the volume of planes landing, parking and buying fuel at the jetport has increased significantly.  There are now more than 70 aircraft based at the jetport, with several jets flying in and parking on long holidays or weeks as the owners visit area beaches and golf courses.

Additionally, more business jets now use the jetport, which increases the airport’s economic impact in Brunswick County.  The upgrades to the jetport make our area Brunswick County accessible and user-friendly for corporate executives and business leaders who are visiting Brunswick County, including those looking to expand or relocate in the area.

“The perspective from the air enabled me to see all the project areas at one time, showing the importance of the improvements to the jetport and the area economy,” said Iler.

The helicopter is available for tours at reasonable fees and can be scheduled by calling the jetport.
