A Strong, Common-Sense Conservative
Voice for Brunswick County
Jobs & the Economy
Small businesses are the economic engine which drives our economy. As a former small business owner, I understand the challenges our small business owners face in these uncertain economic times. As your State Representative, I will continue to fight for common-sense policies that give small business owners the freedom to be creative, work hard, create jobs and reap the rewards of their hard work. As your State Representative, I will also continue working with local leaders to attract new industries that bring stable, long-term jobs to Brunswick County.
Healthcare
As you know, the politicians in Washington have passed a law which states that individuals will be penalized if they do not purchase health insurance. I believe this law is a violation of your Constitutional rights. As your State Representative, I supported legislation to protect North Carolinians from a federal government mandate to purchase health insurance they do not want; unfortunately, the Governor vetoed this important effort to protect your freedom. In addition, I supported lawsuit reform and continue to support increasing competition by allowing you to purchase health insurance across state lines.
Fighting Wasteful Spending
In this difficult economy, families and small business owners throughout Brunswick County are tightening their belts and making tough decisions; government has a responsibility to do the same. If re-elected this November, I will continue to be a strong voice for common-sense fiscal policies that set priorities, make wise use of your tax dollars and promote transparency and openness at all levels of state government.
Reducing Your Tax Burden
Times are tough, and families and small business owners all across Brunswick County are struggling to make ends meet. During these challenging times, the last thing our struggling families and small business owners need is a higher tax bill – especially given that North Carolina is already the highest taxed state in the southeast. As your State Representative, I have and will continue to oppose tax increases and will push for policies that reduce your tax burden.
A World-Class Education for Our Children
We have a responsibility to ensure that Brunswick County’s children have the opportunity to obtain a world-class education that prepares them for college or the job market. We must empower teachers to do their jobs. We must hold our schools to a high standard. During this legislative session, we raised the cap on public charter schools. As your State Representative, I will continue to fight for common-sense policies that empower our teachers and provide our children with a safe learning environment.
Supporting Our Community Colleges
North Carolina’s economy has changed in recent years, and those changes have impacted Brunswick County. Our state’s economy is no longer dominated by agriculture, textiles and manufacturing. As our state’s economy has changed, many of our citizens have found that they need to acquire new skills and training to remain competitive in the job market. Our community colleges are an important tool to help our workers remain competitive in our changing marketplace. By helping develop our workforce, a strong community college system strengthens our ability to recruit new industries to the area. I am proud to have served on the Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees, and as your State Representative, I will continue to push for policies that support and strengthen our community college system.
Cleaning Up Raleigh’s Culture of Corruption
In recent years, North Carolina’s state government has been plagued by scandal after scandal. As your State Representative, I will fight to put an end to pay-to-play politics and will push for policies that increase transparency throughout state government.
Transportation
Good roads are a critical part of southeastern North Carolina’s economy. As your State Representative, I will push for the construction of much-needed roads in southeastern North Carolina, including the completion of I-140. In addition, I will fight to clean up the corruption and eliminate waste in our state’s transportation system.
Public Safety
Keeping our streets, neighborhoods and schools safe must be one of our top priorities. As your State Representative, I will push for policies that support our law enforcement community, and I will fight to ensure that our Court system has the resources it needs to keep criminals off of our streets.
Energy
America is far too dependent on other countries for key natural resources like oil and gas. Because it is imperative that we take advantage of our own natural resources and reduce our dependency on foreign oil, I support reasonable drilling off of our own coast.
